What is ASUS MG248QR?

The ASUS MG248QR is the successor of the already popular ASUS MG248Q. It solved some of the problems of its predecessor.

Its gaming performance is impressive and is perfect for serious gamers with a tight budget. Read this review of The ASUS MG248QR to know more about it.

ASUS MG248QR – Image Quality

The ASUS MG248QR is a 24-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Gaming Monitor. It is based on a TN panel. It covers 99% 0f the sRGB color gamut and supports 8-bit color depth via dithering (6-bit + FRC).

The out of box color accuracy of this monitor is bad. The colors look bland and the images look lifeless. The TN panels always had the worst image quality than the rest of the panels.

People choose TN panels for their excellent performance in games. Neither IPS nor VA panels come close to it in terms of performance. People compromise on the image quality for better performance when they choose TN panel monitors.

You don’t have to live with such bad colors. You can improve the color accuracy of this monitor by simply tweaking some color settings.

Here are my best color settings for the ASUS MG248QR.

  • Brightness: 45
  • Contrast: 75
  • Saturation: 55

 Color (User):

  • Red: 96
  • Green: 94
  • Blue: 88
  • Sharpness: 80
  • Trace Free: 40
  • ASCR: Off

If you use an Nvidia Graphics card, Go to the Nvidia Control Panel and reduce the gamma to a level where you find the colors comfortable. My gamma level is at +0.75. Also, increase the digital vibrance to either +55 or +60.

Do keep in mind that these settings vary for every monitor. These worked well for me. They are not the perfect fit but for most users, these setting should make a big difference in the color quality.

Once you tweak the color settings, you will have a much better image quality. The images will be vibrant and the colors pop out making images look lively. The visual quality may not be on par with IPS monitors but it is more than enough to enjoy gaming.

It has a brightness level of 350-nits. This monitor is fairly bright and you will have no issues gaming on it even in a well-lit room. Its contrast ratio of 1000:1 is decent enough for gaming.

The ASUS MG248QR has narrow viewing angles. You get washed out colors when you view this monitor from different angles. All TN panels suffer from this problem. You get 170° Horizontal and 160° Vertical viewing angles. Since you will be directly facing the monitor while gaming, the narrow viewing angles won’t be a problem.

It has a decent pixel density of 91PPI. The images and text in games will be sharp and crisp. You won’t have to deal with any kind of pixelated images that hinder your gaming experience.

The monitor we reviewed had no dead pixels on it. There was also no visible backlight bleeding. TN monitors do no suffer from issues like IPS glow that is present in IPS panels.

The ASUS MG248QR has a matte anti-glare coating on it that handles the reflections effectively.

Overall, The ASUS MG248QR has a decent image quality once you tweak it using the above settings. You won’t feel like you’re sacrificing too much visual quality for better performance. You can enjoy super-fast gameplay with decent visuals. You will definitely be satisfied with it.
