What is ASUS VE278H

The ASUS VE278H is a 27-inch monitor. It offers great value for its price. Read this review of The ASUS VE278H to see if this monitor is the right one for you.

ASUS VE278H - Image Quality

The ASUS VE278H is a 27-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Monitor. It is based on TN Panel. It covers 95% of the sRGB color gamut and It supports 8-bit color depth via dithering.

Though TN Panels tend to have bad color quality, the ASUS VE278H did stand out. It has better image quality than most of the other TN panels in its price range. Though it is not on par with the IPS monitors, it is still impressive for a TN panel.

For watching movies and playing games, you will have no issues in terms of color quality. Overall, you get vivid images with colors that are bright and lively.

If you want the best image quality, try tweaking the monitor settings and see what suits you better.

Here are my best color settings for the ASUS VE278H:

  • Splendid: Standard Mode
  • Contrast: 75
  • Color Temp: User R:100 G:96 B:95
  • Smart View: Off
  • Trace Free: 40

All the other unlisted settings were left at stock settings. You need to understand that these settings are different for every monitor. You do not have to strictly follow them. You can add your own tweaks to the above settings to make sure you get the best possible image quality.

It has a brightness level of 300-nits and a contrast ratio of 1200:1. The brightness levels of this monitor in real-life conditions are a lot higher. I suggest you reduce it to prevent eye strain. Overall, you won’t have any problems in terms of brightness and contrast.

The TN panels have narrow viewing angles. It has 170°(H)/160°(V) viewing angles. Don’t worry. You won’t have any shift in colors, brightness, and contrast levels as long as you face the monitor directly.

The ASUS VE278H didn’t have any dead pixels. There were also no issues of any backlight bleeding.

It also has an anti-glare coating that will prevent any distracting reflections from forming on it.

ASUS VE278H - Design, Ergonomics, and Connectivity

The ASUS VE278H comes in a simple design. The cabinet has a glossy finish. It doesn’t have many aesthetic enhancements like many of its high-end gaming monitors have. This is understandable considering its price.

Despite the simple design, ASUS did not compromise on the build quality. The build quality of this monitor is very good. The plastic used is of decent quality and it is durable. The stand has a circular base and is sturdy. It doesn’t wobble.

The OSD buttons are present on the right-hand side of the lower bezel. They are easy to reach and responsive. They help you navigate the OSD menu, adjust the volume, turn on/off the monitor, etc.

The ergonomic capabilities of this monitor are only limited to the +20°/-5° tilt functionality. Other features like height adjustment, monitor rotation, and swivel are absent.

The ASUS VE278H has a 100x100mm VESA mount. You can use it to connect the monitor to a third-party stand or wall mount it.

The connectivity options of this monitor include 2x HDMI, 1x VGA. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack present.

This monitor has 2x 3W built-in speakers. Their sound output is average. They should be enough for small closed rooms but for a better audio experience, I suggest you buy external speakers.

ASUS VE278H - Gaming Performance

The ASUS VE278H is a decent choice for casual gaming. It has a refresh rate of 60Hz.

The TN panels are popular for their low response times. The response time of this monitor is around 2ms which is really good. Its input lag is around 8ms and is imperceptible. There were no issues of ghosting or trailing during video games.

It is a great choice for gaming consoles like PS4 and Xbox. They do not need a higher refresh rate and the low input lag helps you a lot in fast-paced video games. You can also use it for Nintendo Switch.

The ASUS VE278H has no support for technologies like AMD’s FreeSync and Nvidia’s G-Sync.

We need to keep in mind that the ASUS VE278H is made for regular usage. It is not a hardcore gaming monitor. So, it is expected for it to not support high refresh rates, FreeSync, and G-Sync.

ASUS VE278H - Features

The Splendid Video Intelligence feature contains different image presets like Scenery, Theater, Game, Night View, sRGB, and Standard. They enhance various settings like brightness, contrast, color temperature, sharpness, etc. You can access them using the OSD menu.

The QuickFit Virtual Scale technology lets you overlay different sized alignment grids on top of whatever window you have open, this is a great way to edit photos.

The ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR) adjusts the luminance of the backlighting in a way that allows it to support contrast ratios as high as 50,000,000:1. This results in blacks appearing deeper and whiter appearing brighter. This results in realistic images.
