The GTX 1660 Ti and other cards in the 16-series were launched with budget and affordability in mind. These are a blessing to PC gamers who would like to get good value for the price. It is based on the Turing architecture present in the RTX cards.

It doesn’t have any RT cores so it cannot render real-time Ray tracing and DLSS as effectively as the RTX cards. This is not a problem for most gamers in the budget segment. It has 1536 CUDA cores that operate at 1500Mhz. They can be boosted up to 1770Mhz. It uses a 6GB GDDR6 VRAM that has a bandwidth of 288Gb/s and operates at 1500Mhz.

This is also a power-efficient card with a TDP value of only 120W requiring only a 450W power supply to power it up. it uses an 8-pin power connector. It is a dual-slot card and uses a PCI-Express 3.0 x 16 to connect to a motherboard. its display outputs include 1x DVI, 1x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort.

The GTX 1660 Ti won’t let you down when it comes to gaming in the 1080p at ultra graphics settings. It can even handle 1440p resolution at medium graphics settings in a few older games. It comes with a dual-fan setup and is also pretty overclockable.

The GTX 1660 Ti runs silent and cool. If you are a gamer with a budget, this is the graphics card I recommend. Definitely give it a chance. You won’t be disappointed.

What to look out for in a Graphics Card:

Memory size: The GPU memory is used to store and render each pixel you see on the screen. The more memory a graphics card has, the better your gaming performance will be. With higher memory, you can play games at a higher resolution and pull out more FPS all while loading ultra HD textures faster.

If you’re running multiple displays, make sure you have a higher GPU memory. There are also many other factors related to memory like bandwidth and bus width. In general, the higher the values of these components, the better it is for you.

Power requirements: Better graphics cards tend to draw more power. You will be able to know the power requirements of the graphics cards by a simple google search.  

Size: Also look out for the size. Some of the GPUs I recommend are humongous and will not fit in Mini and Micro ATX cases.

Ports and connections: As long as your monitor has HDMI ports, you’ll be fine. All the graphics cards have HDMI ports. Make sure your motherboard has PCI Express x16 slots. This is where your graphics card sits on your motherboard.

If you want to connect multiple GPUs via SLI or Crossfire, make sure you have at least two PCI Express slots available. In the case of connecting power supply, most of the GPUs use 6-pin or 8-pin PCI Express connectors. 

Nvidia or AMD

Nvidia rules the high-end segment. If you want the most powerful and efficient graphics card, it will be Nvidia. AMD rules the value segment and provides a great performance to price ratio.

AMD does not have many cards in the high-end segment. Also, let me remind you that PUBG and Fortnite are developed on Unreal Engine 4. This engine is developed using Nvidia graphics cards. This means you’ll get better performance on Nvidia graphics cards than AMD.

The only major issue you will face with each of them concerns your display. Nvidia and AMD use a software called G-Sync and FreeSync respectively to synchronize your monitor refresh rate with that of your GPU.

This would mean that you should get an AMD GPU if you own a FreeSync monitor and Nvidia GPU for a G-Sync monitor. Thankfully, Nvidia released this driver update which will allow few FreeSync monitors to work with Nvidia GPUs. Still, I suggest you get a GPU that matches your monitor configuration.

A. I would suggest a multi GPU setup for those who are into Crypto mining and GPU programming. In the case of gaming, choosing one powerful card will be more beneficial than two mediocre cards in terms of both performance and power consumption.

A. This is a common problem for most people choosing a graphics card. A reference card or founder’s edition card is the one directly from the manufacturer i.e. either Nvidia or AMD.

A non-reference card (also called aftermarket card) is the one which is manufactured by third-party companies like MSI, GIGABYTE, ASUS, etc which are modified by adding RGB lightning, an extra fan or even overclocked GPU.
