What is Sceptre C305B-200UN?

The Sceptre C305B-200UN is easily one of the best ultrawide gaming monitors you can purchase under $300. It comes with many other features that will help gamers. Read this review to know more about it.

Sceptre C305B-200UN - Image Quality

The Sceptre C305B-200UN is a 29.5-inch 2560×1080 (UWHD) Monitor. It is based on VA Panel. It covers 90% of the sRGB color gamut. It has a contrast ratio of 3000:1 and a brightness level of 270-nits. It supports true 8-bit color that can display 16.7 million colors across the monitor.

The image quality of this monitor is decent. The VA Panel produces better images than most TN panel monitors. You don’t get washed-out images as you see in them.

The overall color reproduction is good. Most gamers will appreciate the vibrant images it produces. The high contrast ratio adds depth to the images and makes them appear more realistic. The blacks appear darker and whites appear brighter. The overall brightness of this monitor is high despite having a standard rating of 270-nits.

Another thing that the Sceptre C305B-200UN does right is to maintain the right balance of resolution and screen size that results in a pixel density of 94PPI. It makes images look detailed and text appears sharp and crisp looking.

The viewing angles of this monitor are comfortable. You get 160° vertical and 170° horizontal viewing angles. Though they are not as wide as those you find on IPS panels, there won’t be any major shift in colors, brightness, and contrast levels unless viewed from extreme and unconventional angles.

The surface of the monitor has an anti-glare coating. You can game and work on this monitor even in bright conditions without any distracting reflections forming on its screen.

Sceptre C305B-200UN - Design, Ergonomics and Connectivity:

The build quality of the Sceptre C305B-200UN is decent. It comes with a black chassis. The plastic used is strong and durable.

The design of this monitor definitely stands out from the crowd. It is a curved monitor that has a curvature of 1800R. It has two red LED strips on its back that gives this monitor a stylish look. Of course, it is not a lot but definitely noticeable.

The monitor also has ultra-thin bezels. It is not completely frameless but the thin bezels should minimize distractions when you use it for multi-monitor setups.

This monitor uses buttons to help you navigate the menu. A joystick would have been better. The buttons are placed on the bottom bezel at the right-hand side. There are a total of five buttons out of which one is the power button. They feel responsive and get the job done.

The stand is sturdy and only offers tilt functionality. You cannot adjust the height, swivel the monitor, or rotate it. Thankfully, this monitor can be wall-mounted using a 75x75mm VESA mount.

The connectivity option of the Sceptre C305B-200UN are generous. They include 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x HDMI 2.0, and 2x HDMI 1.4. You also get a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The HDMI 2.0 port support 2560 x 1080 @ 165Hz, the DisplayPort supports 2560 x 1080 @ 200Hz and the HDMI 1.4 port support 2560 x 1080 @ 75Hz

This monitor has 2x3W built-in speakers. They are not the loudest but should be enough for watching movies or playing games in small spaces. I suggest you buy external speakers for a better experience.

Sceptre C305B-200UN - Gaming Performance

The performance of the Sceptre C305B-200UN in gaming is truly impressive. You get a massive 200Hz refresh rate that will make your gameplay super-smooth.

In addition to that, the Sceptre C305B-200UN also supports AMD’s FreeSync technology. You can enjoy long hours of gaming without any issues of tearing, stuttering, or lagging during gameplay.
This monitor also works well with the 10-series Nvidia graphics cards and above.

The VA panels always had high response times. This monitor has a response time of 5ms. Its input lag is imperceptible. Unless you want to use it strictly for competitive gaming, you will have no major problems with it. Playing PUBG on it was responsive and had no issues of ghosting.

Using 200Hz will result in ghosting during dark areas of the gameplay. It is tolerable in most cases but if you want less/no ghosting and trialing, you can always tone down the refresh rate to 144Hz.

This monitor has no dead pixels and only slight backlight bleed toward the corners. You can adjust the brightness and contrast levels to minimize its effect.
