The Sceptre E248B-FPT168 is a 1080p gaming monitor. It comes with amazing specs like 1ms response time, 165HZ refresh rate, and an appealing price tag. Read this review of the Sceptre E248B-FPT168 to learn more about it.

Sceptre E248B-FPT168 – Image Quality

The Sceptre E248B-FPT168 is a 24-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Gaming monitor. It is based on the IPS panel. It covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut and supports 8-bit color depth via dithering.

It has a decent image quality. The colors are rich and vibrant. IPS panels are known for their superior color accuracy. You won’t get washed out images on this monitor as you see in TN panels.

Most gaming monitors offer TN panels. You will have to compromise on the image quality for better performance. The Sceptre E248B-FPT168 is a great choice for those who prefer better-looking images while gaming or watching movies. It is also good for casual photo editing.

Do keep in mind that this is a budget monitor. Though it uses an IPS panel, its image quality is not to be compared with that of the high-end IPS monitors that cost you upwards of $400. Though it may require color calibrating for some people, the overall image quality is great nonetheless. There are no major drawbacks to it.

It has a brightness level of 320-nits as opposed to the standard 250-nits present in most monitors in its price range. This monitor is fairly bright and you will have no problems even in a well-lit room. I also suggest you tone it down a bit to avoid any eye strain. Its 1000:1 contrast ratio also results in sharp-looking text and life-like images.

The panel uniformity is decent. The colors were consistent throughout the panel without any major hiccups.

The 24-inch screen having a resolution of 1080p results in a pixel density of 93PPI. The images are well detailed and the text looks sharp. It is also easy on the eyes as you won’t have any blurry looking text or pixelated images where you have to squint your eyes to see them clearly.

The viewing angles of this monitor are also good. You get 178-degree wide and comfortable viewing angles. There won’t be any change in the colors, brightness, and contrast levels even when viewed from skewed angles.

The Sceptre E248B-FPT168 we reviewed had no dead pixels on it. It also did not have any major issues of IPS glow which is good to see in a budget monitor.

It has a matte anti-glare coating that will help diffuse any distracting reflections that form on it.

The overall image quality of this monitor is more than satisfactory. You get better brightness, good image quality, rich colors than most of the other monitors in its price range.

Sceptre E248B-FPT168 – Design, Ergonomics and Connectivity

The Sceptre E248B-FPT168 comes in a slim and minimalistic design. It has thin bezels that will help reduce distractions when you use it for multi-monitor setups. The black cabinet has a matte finish which makes it makes to clean.

The build quality is decent. The plastic used is durable and doesn’t feel like a low-grade material. There are five labeled OSD buttons placed on the backside of the monitor. Though joystick would have been a better option, buttons are the standard for most budget monitors.

The stand is made of metal and has a tripod design. It is sturdy and doesn’t wobble.

Its ergonomic features only include the – 5°/+15° tilt functionality. Other features like height adjustment, screen rotation, and swivel options are absent. Thankfully, there is a 100x100mm VESA pattern present on it that you can use to wall mount it or connect it to a third-party stand.

The connectivity options of the Sceptre E248B-FPT168 are generous. You get 1 x HDMI 2.0, 2x HDMI 1.4 and 1x DisplayPort 1.2 ports. There is also a 3.5mm headphone jack. It has 2x 2W built-in speakers. Their sound output is bad and I suggest you use external speakers for a better audio experience.

The HDMI ports support 1080p at 144Hz. The DisplayPort supports 1080p at 165Hz.

Sceptre E248B-FPT168 – Gaming Performance

The Sceptre E248B-FPT168 has an excellent gaming performance.

It has a refresh rate of 165Hz. Gaming will be super-smooth. If you’re coming from a 60Hz monitor you will observe a great deal of difference. It offers you a better competitive edge than a 144Hz monitor.

One mistake many people make is to not change the refresh rate. The default refresh rate out of the box of any monitor is set to 60Hz. Most people assume it is 165Hz and complain that there is no change in smoothness and performance. This simple guide will help you to change the refresh rate of your monitor.

It has an advertised response time of 1ms. In a real-world scenario, it is around 3ms. Still not bad. Most users would probably not notice it. You can still achieve 1ms response time using the Overdrive setting.

Using the Overdrive setting will introduce slight ghosting and motion blur. I recommend Turing it off for a better gaming experience with no ghosting and motion blur.

The Sceptre E248B-FPT168 also supports the FreeSync refresh rate technology. There will be no problems with screen tearing, stuttering, and lagging during gameplay. You can also use it with the Nvidia graphics cards (10-series and later) without any issues.

The 1080p resolution is the sweet spot for most competitive gamers. A decent graphics card at balanced settings should give you 144+ FPS in those games. You can definitely use this monitor for competitive gaming. For serious competitive gamers, I would recommend sticking with 1ms TN panel monitors.

You also get different image presets like FPS and RTS for games. Standard, Movie, Eco, etc. for the said purposes. They enhance the image quality.

You can also adjust various settings like color temperature, gamma, brightness, contrast, etc. using the OSD menu. It is user-friendly and straightforward.
